For a printmaking class final project, I chose to create merchandise inspired by Dermot Kennedy's music, his own merchandise, and the imagery in his lyrics. I created three different designs inspired by three songs: An Evening I Will Not Forget, Outgrown, and a Frank Ocean cover of 'Swim Good.' I initially printed the designs on postcards, prints, and t-shirts. Months after the class ended, I have continued to work on his branding for fun, including a concert poster and alternate single cover.
I am drawn to his descriptive imagery that revolves around nature elements and poetic metaphors. He uses iconagraphy such as the moon, stars, sky, water and light. I took these elements and abstracted them to fit his grungy, collaged aesthetic. I chose not to include lyrics so it would attract audiences to see the imagery within his music.
